Solving for Accelerated Growth

It's triggering because IT'S REAL! Bear with me - I promise, there's a reason for unearthing all of this (info and knowledge sharing).



The Goal: Increase #sales, #organicgrowth, and #profitability.


This is a top priority for every company the Congruence Agency encounters. No real surprise, right?


So, does it surprise you to hear that most companies are getting in their own way of achieving that goal? "But, how," you ask?


Here are the top 3 largest hurdles I see in achieving accelerated growth:

  1. Lacking a formal strategy & marketing implementation plan

  2. Failing to partner marketing + sales functions

  3. Working from misaligned KPIs (OR none at all)

  1. Lacking a formal strategy & marketing implementation plan


Most companies state their goals (the WHAT), sharing them monthly and sending their sales folks out into the abyss to conquer. Leadership often labels these teams as self-managed professionals to avoid micromanagement and to promote autonomy, and positive culture. By avoiding this entirely, they inadvertently miss the necessary build-out and execution of the target segment, geographical markets (the WHERE), formal sales processes, and accountability mechanisms (the WHEN and HOW) for attaining that goal.

Reality sets in and the salesforce realize they have an arbitrary goal to meet, with zero direction to do so or no understanding of the WHY behind it.


The snowball effect ensues - spreading the weight and workload tumbling downhill to support staff, blurring the line of clarity, and WHO is responsible for hitting numbers.

Suddenly, September smacks leadership square in the face with that annual goal, a sub-par organic growth rate, a struggling salesforce, and a marketing team with a chip on their shoulder. The last three months of the year are a massive push for referral and renewal business - squeaking by with an "OK" growth rate and a burnt-out workforce.


Joyful holidays. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Cheers... begin, again.


Companies create the goal and sadly fail over and over, again, to help plan the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY, and, most importantly, HOW to reach success.


This is why solving for implementation is the absolute key to hurdle #1.
